Scott Sawyer, M.D.
Dr. Sawyer is a board Certified Ophthalmologist who had been in practice for over 20 years. He specializes in comprehensive eye examinations and treats all medical eye conditions. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Harris County Medical Society and Texas Ophthalmology Association.
A graduate of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Dr. Sawyer received his undergraduate degree at Baylor University. Upon completion of medical school he completed a one year Transitional Internship at the University Hospital in Little Rock and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He spent two years at Central Georgia Eye Center in Macon, Ga. Before joining Coastal Eye Associates in 1999, Dr Sawyer spent eight years running a successful solo practice in the Museum District of Houston.
Dr. Sawyer helped found the Frost Eye Clinic in 1995 to provide eye care for HIV(+) individuals who did not have insurance. They have grown to become a full time comprehensive eye clinic geared mostly toward those uninsured/underinsured individuals regardless of their HIV status. Frost Eye Clinic is part of Legacy Community Health Services (formerly Montrose Clinic), a non-profit federally qualified healthcare center with several clinics in underserved Houston communities. Dr. Sawyer continues to say involved with the clinic and is currently serves at the Medical Director. He is also involved with Bayou City Boys Club and Halloween Magic, both are non-profit 501(c) 3 organizations that, combined have given away over a million dollars to the HIV(+) community in Houston.
Dr. Sawyer lives near the Houston Medical Center and enjoys all the activities of living in the city. His hobbies include traveling, going to the movies and attending theater productions. One of his favorite past-times is enjoying time with his two treasured Boston terriers, Beau and Sasha.
